Hi! Street Party

We launched Elephant Says Hi! in September 2019 together with local residents and our network of organisations with the aim of connecting people through the simple yet powerful act of sharing a big street table, food & music with fellow neighbours.

We wanted to bring the high street to the residents and encourage local businesses & community groups to come and Say Hi!, spread the word about what they do and to get to know eachother. And it was a great day....

Festive Hi! Light

We joined together with our community members St John's Church & Beza for a festive afternoon of a traditional service with readings from local residents followed by carols and Beza's delicious warming soup at her cafe.

We wanted this time to be about thinking of others and giving ‘time’ and attention to the community. Our promise tree hung with the promises of being kind, seeing someone in need, saying hi to someone new, giving time and volunteering with the organisations in our network.

If you took a tag, you could see Santa for his 'stamp of approval' and then get a free soup for your good deed! Roll on the cycle of giving...

Elmer Says Hi!

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Elmer the Elephant in the UK and as part of the Elmer trail, we were given the opportunity to create our very own Elmer as a symbol of our campaign alongside other community groups and organisations in the area. This Elmer was designed by street artist Hammo depicting real people living and working in the Elephant and Castle area.

Hi-Street Connect

A seasonal event for local organisations that form part of the growing  ESH welcoming network to get together, say hi, share experiences and create opportunities for collaboration. We believe bringing the high street together on a personal micro level can create a deeper sense of belonging and connection for people working and living in the area - to meet eachother, have meaningful everyday experiences and engagement to tackle loneliness

CommuniTea

As part of the Festival of Ideas, exploring the themes of strong communities, ESH has started a series of CommuniTea get togethers where members of the community can meet, enjoy tea and cake, and discuss all things community, connection and spaces

Re:Post Pandemic

Elephant Says Hi presents an Instagram Photo Exhibition taken by local community and those in the area during the pandemic.

The exhibition reflects on a challenging time when life, behaviours and emotions changed, and when community came together in new and inspiring ways.

We celebrate the importance of ‘human’ as captured by the lens and the chance to physically engage with space and each other once again by presenting the digital communication that we all relied on, in a new physical space – The Tree House at Elephant Park.
